A List of photography resources for aspiring Photographers

Are you a hobbyist or aspiring photographer like me? I know I have come a long way since I first picked up a camera. I also know that I have a long way to go when it comes to improving my skills. You could also say that it is a fact that I am addicted to photography( I think that almost goes hand in hand with memory keeping). I like to use both digital and analog cameras and am always scouring the web for photography resources. Today, I thought I would share some of my favorite resources with you.

Resources from Around the Web

  • Digital Rev Tv offers a variety of videos that I find both useful and entertaining. The link leads to a trailer for their Pro Photographer Cheap Camera series. They give a toy camera or cheap digital camera to a pro photographer and challenge them to take a series of photos. It really highlights that it is the skill of the person and not necessarily the camera that makes the photo. Along with these challenge style videos, they also offer camera reviews and photography tips. If you want to take things a bit further, head over to their website. When you join for free, you have the ability to keep a list of your current equipment complete with an estimated value.
  • Lomography.com is an excellent resource if you want to explore the world of analog film cameras. They have a regularly published free magazine which features interviews of various photographers. It also includes resources for film developing and using your cameras. They feature a wide range of cameras that shoot instant , 35 mm and 120 mm film. There is a shop with specialty film and expired film as well as a variety of camera bodies. This is a good comprehensive place to start if you want to shoot analog.
  • Digital Photography School is full of resources. From tips and tutorials to the latest equipment, a photographer of any level can find help here. This site also includes a community forum with regular challenges.

All of these sites include photography communities for sharing your photos.

  • Tips from the Top Floor is a photography based Podcast. I had the joy of meeting and speaking with Chris, the podcast host, on the DigiScrap Geek Podcast. He is a professional photographer however, the way he speaks about taking photos makes you believe that you can become as good as he is. I highly recommend having a listen.

The Digiscrap Geek Podcast has covered the topic of photography several times. My two favorite photography related episodes are:

DigiScrap Geek Podcast Episode 13

Organizing your photo is ALWAYS a must. Mary gave us some tips and tricks for taming our photo collections.
