I can recall a time in which I didn’t own any washi tape. I saw it appearing everywhere as the new trendy supply and oh, how I wanted some! I started by buying myself just a precious few rolls. I was so excited that I wrote a blog post about how I would store the beautiful rows stacked up by color on a small shelf in my creative space. I didn’t expect to get much more washi tape, but little did I know that it would start appearing as part of my monthly scrapbook kits. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it did mean I needed to rethink how I stored my washi tape.

I had to think about what I wanted to get from the storage. I knew I didn’t want to put the tape rolls onto a bar. I like the option of holding my tape up to each layout so I can see if it matches or measure how much I want to use.Jars or bowls were not a good fit for me. They would look pretty in my creative space but I knew I hated having to sort through containers to find what I wanted. I need to be able to see what I have available.I also knew that I was now receiving 1-3 rolls a month in my kits. I needed storage which would allow my collection to grow.

I chose a 12×12 plastic Sterilite drawer system. It gives me the option to see what I have while still being able to pull rolls out.

Currently, I have it sorted by color. The top drawer is black, white, metallics, and natural tones. One drawer for blue, green and purple. The bottom drawer for red, yellow, pink and orange.

Notice how the back rows are a bit jumbled. The drawers hold a lot of washi tape, but are not yet full. I have space to add more rolls as they arrive in my kits.

My storage method and quantity of tape may have changed but one thing does remain the same. I do still use a permanent marker to write the manufacturer’s name inside each roll. I don’t have any plans to buy more washi tape, but I do believe I may still end up with some in my kits each month. I love that this storage option allows me to easily expand it. Should I have the need, I can simple buy another set of Sterilite drawers. For now though, I am quite content to gaze at each drawer with it’s lines of color.
