Let’s face it. Mondays are often hard. After the carefree days of the weekends, I dislike having to go back to the monotonous schedule of homeschool and housework. Sometimes, I have a rough time starting my day and I need a little extra caffeine. Recently, I did a layout about my son developing a taste for coffee. It’s been awhile since I walked through a color palette with you, so I figured I would do that today while sharing some caffeine related inspiration.

Color Formula 20This particular layout started with the photo and the story. Since it’s all about coffee, I knew I wanted to use coffee or coffee beans as the main inspiration. I began with this brown, monochromatic color scheme in mind.

Color Formula 21A monochromatic scheme would have been just fine but I wanted a little more color…something cheerful and bright to match the energy one gets from a little caffeine. Adding red and a yellowish orange did the trick.

Using these colors as a reference, I rifled through my supplies. I had a wonderful coffee theme print in my January Cocoa Daisy kit. It had a bit of green, pink and blue. When it comes to color palettes, I use them as a reference. I can’t always find the exact thing I need in my supplies. I have learned to go with the flow rather than fighting to get everything just so. Having a relaxed attitude makes it easier to find the right supplies and get the layout done in a small amount of time.
