I always profess that I will participate in a photo challenge. And then I don’t. I guess a lot of this stems from the fact that I walk around with my camera just looking for the right opportunities to compose a shot. I generally don’t have a prompt in mind. I am looking for a story or a special moment. So I forget the prompts and just snap away. Yes, I know that a photo a day challenge can help improve your photography. I certainly stink at the photo a day prompts. I just don’t make them a habit.Truth be told, I feel guilty for forgetting to participate. I don’t want the guilt and so I stopped making the commitment. That being said, one of the few photo challenges I ever completed was with Get It Scrapped in 2013. So what made me successful at that challenge and not others?

Looking back, I suppose the big factor was that I snapped most of the photos and put the prompt to it later. I take a lot of everyday shots but I feel like they are boring. Sometimes, I take less photos then I wish I did.Life on a quiet island doesn’t change much at all and I feel like I tell the same stories again and again. I need new perspective. The prompts from the challenge gave me new ways to spin the stories of those photos. The new spin made me excited to take pictures and so I took even more than usual. After reviewing the prompts a few times, I did have a few in mind. However, it became more of a scavenger hunt in which I sought to add meaningful stories to my everyday existence. I think I have a hard time making  the photo a day challenges a habit because I don’t yet feel a connection to the prompts. My process for the challenge is therefor pictures first, story/prompt later when it comes to everyday life.

With this in mind, I chose to once again participate in a Photo Challenge for the Month of May at Get It Scrapped. The theme is based on movies, some of which may just inspire some scrapbook layouts or serve as title ideas. I approached this challenge knowing that I would not snap a photo for every prompt and that is ok. I don’t want a ton of photos just for the sake of photos. I need to have an attachment to them.

So now for the prompts and a disclaimer. I am posting about this a little late. Yes, May is halfway done but, if you want to play, you can still join in. Don’t feel like you have to have a photo for every prompt or feel like you need to go out and take more pictures. You can use ones you already shot this month.Choose the prompts that inspire a story from your photos. Some may inspire a whole layout. Others might help you find a new perspective to journal from in your Project Life pages.

And now for a few of my photos to start things off.

IMG_5166The Perfect Storm. This is my idea of a perfect day. I love the rainy weather! It was raining so hard that you couldn’t see an of the hotels just a few blocks away!I like to include weather shots in my Project Life pages. Titling this one as the perfect storm will make it more than just dropping a weather shot into my pages and will inspire me to write more about it.

IMG_5156The Three Amigos. Three tickets to the Avengers movie and lunch out. A nice day for this little family of three. I love that we share so many of the same interests. I can journal about this a bit more too rather than just stating this an an event that happened.

IMG_5185Pretty Woman. Isn’t she gorgeous! There are lots of hibiscus in full bloom right now. The rain makes their color extraordinarily vibrant.

I know these are just a few shots. Never fear. I will be adding more photos. I am just getting started. and I am getting quite a few ideas for my Project Life Pages for this month. Should make everything more interesting for sure.Meanwhile, if you want to see some other photos from around the Bahamas, check out my posts from the 2013 Photo Challenge:
