It’s time for Cooking with Tina Ingredient #3. If you are just finding out about this art collaboration, head over here to find ingredient one.
The exhaustion was still there but now I found myself a little more awake ( creatively speaking). What was the next ingredient going to be? Was each step going to remain fairly simple or would it become more involved? I wasn’t sure I had it in me yet for something more involved. Luckily, ingredient 3 was fairly simple. This week, we were asked to stencil a repeating pattern on our projects. You can see Tina’s take on the prompt here.
I decided to beef up the diagonal flow of the piece by adding the background stencil to each corner. Initially, I used white paint but I quickly decided that I wanted more color. I gently blotted off the stenciled white which left cloudy shadows of the design in a few spots. I then stenciled with a shade of blue that was bright, happy, and also added a bit of contrasting energy to the page. There are 3 clusters of the stenciled background image within those clusters. I didn’t want everything to be uniform or in pairs. The three groupings are loose but still flow within the diagonal line. At this point, I was relaxing the structure but still playing things safe. There is plenty of space to add a focal point image in the middle though I have no clue if there will be one or what that might be. Keeping things smaller and structured was the best way to see if I could make this piece something I will like. I was open to the possibilities but I still wanted some small bit of control.
We have to wait another week for ingredient four. I know it is hard. Personally, I wanted to keep going. If you are playing along, hang in there. Meanwhile, feel free to share your creation in the comments below.
