color formula 24

What is color love? For some, it might be a favorite color or set of colors they want to craft with. For others, color love is brief and fleeting, lasting only as long as you have that color in your kit. Sometimes t’s finding that one piece of patterned paper with just the right combination of hue, pattern and texture. You see it and you know you must create with it. Color can be used as a starting point for scrapbook pages and craft projects. Many scrapbookers sometimes find themselves getting hung up on color choices. Should they match the photo or go with the product they love? There is not necessarily a wrong answer. Many of us fall in between those that steadily use a tried and true palette and those that experiment with our latest color attraction.

Whatever the case may be, I thought that it might be a great opportunity to share a color palette with you along with some color related quotes. These quotes are all art related. however, what they suggest holds true even with scrapbooking.

“Colors speak all languages.”- Joseph Addison

“Sometimes when I’m having a colour moment I think to myself, okay what would be the most disgusting colour to add here? Sometimes that ‘disgusting’ can turn out to be ‘surprising’ and ‘completely gorgeous’.” -Angela A’Court

“Color is like cooking. The cook puts in more or less salt, that’s the difference!” -Josef Albers

“A color is as strong as the impression it creates.” -Ivan Albright

“Every time you shift to a different color or different hue you are creating interest. It’s a subtle thing but it builds content.” -Clyde Aspevig

“A dominant colour possesses tremendous power in making a painting unique.” -Mary Bassi

“If you use colour carefully, that is, placing a softer ‘off’ colour next to pure colour, it helps add the magic touch to your work – and that special look.” -Gail Boyle

“Who told you that one paints with colors? One makes use of colors, but one paints with emotions.” -Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin

How do you use color? Is it purely for the sake of using a color you want to work with? Or do you use it to add symbolic meaning and emotion to your projects? For me, it’s a bit of both and sometimes, my color choices are guided by my mood. How about you? How do you define your color love?
