It’s time for the next ingredient! If you are just finding out about this art collaboration, head over here to find ingredient one.
Now that I had direction, I was anxiously awaiting the next ingredient. The thing about having direction is that you start to plan where the piece is going and what steps to take next. That planning is put on hold when you are waiting for the next technique or supply to be provided. It puts you in limbo which is both exciting and frustrating at the same time. Ingredient 8 called for adding ink to the piece. I had to figure out what color ink and how I wanted to add the ink to the page.
I decided to start by adding color to the stenciled house. After all, if it was going to be a “crown” then it should probably have pizzazz. I chose a hot pink color which was similar to some of the collage elements.
At this point, I was feeling pretty bold. I wanted to add some definition to the face and make it pop out of the page. I decided to use black ink. The results were not what I wanted. I grabbed the wrong bottle of black ink. This particular ink was very fluid and of course, it began spreading and moving on the page in ways I never intended. The thing with ink is that once it’s there, it’s there. I didn’t feel like I could salvage the page by adding more ink. I also wanted to stick to the rules of the collaboration. I gently blotted the ink off before the damage spread too far and began hoping the next ingredient or two would help me fix the mistake.
Now the project is back to being in an ugly phase. Will I salvage it or not? Stay tuned for next week’s ingredient. Meanwhile, check out what Tina did for this prompt on her Instagram page.
