Seeing this post might make you wonder where my round three entry went. Truth be told, I skipped round three. It was  tough decision. I wanted to complete the layout, but just couldn’t make the time for it. I had a lovely staycation with my family last week. The time spent with them trumped all else. Now this week, life is back to it’s normal routine and I am ready for round four.

The entree round called for a focus on journaling. The mystery box ingredients were not overly difficult to use. I could easily see the path to completing the layout. I chose to focus on a specific story I had wanted to tell for a few months. My son likes to use an online game community. He earns virtual trading cards and gear for the games he plays. One day, he decided to sell some of those items. Each item sold for 10 cents or less. I didn’t think it would amount to much, but within a few hours he had earned $10 and bought himself a new game.

The patterned paper in the mystery box pack had a slightly green cast to it.I felt it went well with a sheet of green cardstock, both of which would add to the money theme of the layout. I used the hello word art from the mystery box pack to make my own patterned paper. I printed out a letter from one of the sales and used it in place of a photo( my son’s name is covered for safety reasons). I cut the hello card apart, using the word in the title and the heart as an embellishment. The bracket is also from the mystery pack. In the end, the only items not from the mystery box ingredients were the letter in opportunity and the button with enamel dot over the heart.

I had originally left myself an entire morning to work on the layout, but life happens and in the end, I had just an hour to complete it. To top things off, my Silhouette print to cut feature was not cutting properly. It took me a few tries( which used up precious time) to get things right. In the end, I had just 15 minutes to assemble the page. I used a simple block design with minimal embellishments. I then simply added my journaling.

In retrospect, things are a bit wonky. I am not sure I met the journaling aspect of the challenge. Sure, it’s there and the story is supported. It’s just that I feel I could have done something a bit more interesting. That’s not to say that I don’t like the layout. On the contrary, I feel this was a good warm up for me. When I made this page, it had been over a week since I had done something creative. I find that I need to just play around with items on a page or two before my creative rhythm returns.

There is just one more challenge remaining in the cropped competition. Stay tuned to see my spin on the challenge.
