I have talked a little bit before about the small size of my creative space being a bit of a challenge to organize.Throughout my space are small nooks and crannies. My goal is not to stuff them full of clutter, but rather to carefully consider how the space can best be used. One such space is directly behind my lap top.

CScubes1I have managed to take advantage of the vertical space on my desk, building upward with a shelving unit. Underneath the shelf, I have room for a plastic drawer system which houses most of my tools. To the left of this sits my lap top. I tend to keep my lap top close to the end of the desk. This creates a small shallow area directly in the back. I have tried baskets there, but I tend to find the baskets really don’t take full advantage of the space available.

cubes2I decided I wanted something that would stack and take full advantage of the space beneath shelf. The Deflecto USA Stackable Cube Organizers were the perfect solution. I now had a home for many items that used to occupy a pile or basket somewhere in my space. One cube has houses current stamp sets I want to use. Another is filled with basic tools such as my craft knives and corner rounders. The drawers are perfect for keeping the sharp craft knives out of my cat’s reach. The cube with the x divider allows me to store glue and packages of embellishments along with some of my gelatos. I have three cubes which stack in an L shaped formation. I am able to place my rolls of Amy Tangerine tags and my stapler on top.

I still have room to add a few more cubes and may very well do just that sometime in the near future. My only struggle with this little area are the wires from my microphone and back up hard drive. I would like to find a nice way to contain those. Meanwhile, the area is more functional for me. It’s all about making little tweaks to my creative space one small area at a time.
