With the heat of summer closing in and our homeschool year nearing completion, I found myself in need of a creative project. I wanted something both fun and practical with a hint of challenge sprinkled in. When Tina Walker invited me to participate in one of her latest collaborations, I immediately said yes. The best part about this one is that you can play along too! Today the Stencilfied Journal  Prompt one was released.

What is #theStencilfiedJournal ?

Over the next 16 weeks, Tina will be releasing the prompts on her blog. Each of the prompts features stencils ( specifically, Stencil Girl® Stencils). Tina happens to be a columnist for the Stencil Girl® blog which is why she has chosen to feature their products. As for myself, I am not affiliated with Stencil Girl® but I have purchased quite a few of their stencils over the years. I was happy to break them out of my stash to make use of them.

A new collaboration called me to create a new journal. I will be working within an altered art class catalog. Some of the artists for this collaboration chose to make our purchase new journals as well. If you choose to play along, you can work in a journal you have started or begin anew.

The Stencified Journal- Prompt 1 is a nice and easy way to start. Our goal is to stencil a journal page and cover it with circles. For prompt one, I christened my newly altered journal with a brand new stencil. I had a vision in mind for how to use the stencil, but within just a few minutes of starting, I had made my first mistake on the page. What did I do wrong and how did I fix it? You can find out by watching the process video.

I regard my art journal as a no pressure zone. I am free to play and experiment without requiring perfection. When you let mistakes happen, you will allow yourself to find creative solutions. Often those solutions only end up enhancing your completed piece.
