When you are part of a creative project, it is guaranteed that some aspect of the project won’t always vibe well with you. Today’s prompt fulfilled that role for me. Prompt 10 of the Stencilfied Journal Project asks us to Document Your Day with Stencils. Generally, I save any memory keeping for my scrapbook pages. I decided to create a more symbolic art journal page spread. There was never really much of a plan but there were a few creative experiments.
Document Your Day, an art journal page by Christy Strickler for #thestencilfiedjournal project |Supplies Mediums: Acrylic Paint, Ink, Posca paint Pens, Water Soluble Graphite, Jane Davenport Mermaid Markers; Stencils by Stencilgirl® Products: Art Deco Medallion, Art Deco Borders, Art Deco Sunburst Corners
I chose to start the page by writing words that represented the activities of my typical day. This was my first time using the glass dip pen and it showed. I had a hard time getting the ink to flow properly which made my bad lettering look even worse. Originally, I had decided to draw my figure looking straight out of the page. Partway through, I changed my mind and turned her to look towards the sun which I later regretted. While I did enjoy playing with the canned air and ink, it might not have been the best choice for creating hair…or maybe I just used too many ink colors. Either way, the hair is not what I intended. The positioning of the hair made it difficult for me to go back in and add more shading to the face. I should have shaded the face first. Now it almost looks as if she is wearing some sort of mask which was not my intention. Though the page didn’t turn out as expected, it was fun to make. I learned a few things for next time ( mainly that I need to go find a tutorial with tips for using a glass dip pen).
Now it is your turn to play. Create an art journal page and leave a link to your work in the blog comments below. Be sure to visit Tina Walker’s blog to see her take on the project and get a little more inspiration.
