There has been a lot of silence here on the blog for the past several months. Time that has been well spent with my family over the holiday season. Time that I hope you were able to enjoy with friends and family of your own. Now I find myself a few weeks into 2019. Weeks that happened with a blink of the eye. Time is reminding me to get back to some sort of creative work. So here I am,breaking the silence with both art and music. Once again, I have joined #theStencilfiedJournal project. There is a new set of prompts for 2019, each one music themed. Our first prompt this month is inspired by Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

Using music as inspiration in mixed media( or other forms of art) isn’t a new concept, yet it remains a powerful starting point. Songs have emotional energy. While a musician creates a song from within the depths of their own intentions, that same song may resonate in other ways with the listener. Often it sparks memories. I can remember listening to Bohemian Rhapsody in high school and my early college years. Now I often hear it sung by my son’s friends. Bohemian Rhapsody is a high energy song. It sounds so upbeat that at times, it is hard to forget the meaning within some of the song lyrics. Prior to this challenge, I never gave that meaning much thought. There are a lot of interpretations to the song. I didn’t want to create my page around those. Instead,I chose to focus on a few of the lyrics to create the cover for my newest art journal. Since Bohemian Rhapsody is a song about change, I decided that instead of a process video, I would share a walk through of last year’s journal as a segue into this year’s.

My biggest challenge this year will be accepting my handwriting. While I am now ok with journaling on my scrapbook pages, I always hesitate to write on my art journal spreads. I love that this prompt challenge allows me to return to prompts again and again. Each song provides many creative paths. We’ll have to see which ones I walk down in my art journal.

Now it is your turn to join in #thestencilfiedjournal project. Create something inspired by the song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Share a link to what you create in the comments below.
